I already know. Shitty tattoo. You talked about what age to get a tattoo. I got this when i was 14. My mom had no clue and i went to a local. (shitty) shop to get it without an ID or any research. The lines are shaky and uneven. I don’t regret it at all. I look at and remember how bad i wanted and the experience i had getting it. But i wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. And i wish i saw your site around to know what to look for in a good tattoo artist. Keep up the good work, I’m learning lots. (:
I don’t think I really need to add anything to this :)

What is your opinion on people getting tattoos at a very young age these days?
I really have no place telling anyone what to do with their bodies, including 16 year olds. I’m trying to focus on a formal art critique with this blog, and I know that if I’d gotten the tattoos I’d wanted in high school I would have liked them.
But this is a really, really good question. The big problem is that most of these kids don’t get their parents permission and end up going to talentless hacks.
Enter the kitchen wizard. Someone who is tattooing out of their house (usually their kitchen) with no formal training and a usually unsafe environment. This is the sort of crap you will end up with:

Seriously? This is what most of these kids end up with. And it sucks, because the kids are excited about tattoos and are getting them in visible places. (a) If they get serious about tattooing they’ll have to cover them up eventually, and (b) if they decide they don’t want to be tattooed, they have to get them lazered off.

The difference between a free, cheap, or illegal tattoo and a professional one is everything. And I know I have tons of followers under 18. Please, please wait until you’re of age. Take your time researching your artists and get it on your birthday if you want.
Make sure that it’s not only something that you’ll want for the rest of your life (which is what everyone is always telling you anyway) but that it’s a quality piece of work you can be proud of.
